Dr. des. Marta Rodríguez García

 

Marta Rodríguez García completed her Master's degree in Linguistics (major: Spanish, minor: English) at New Mexico State University in the United States, where she worked as an assistant professor in the Department of Languages and Linguistics. Subsequently, she conducted her doctoral thesis project at the University of Basel. In her doctoral project, she studied the sociolinguistic situation in the community of Gibraltar, paying special attention to language use and code-switching strategies among young Gibraltarians. Her scientific interest lies in the study of language contact from the perspectives of sociolinguistics and discourse, as well as the relationship between language and identity.

Currently, she is an Early Postdoc at the Institute of Spanish Language and Literatures at the University of Bern. In her postdoctoral project, she explores multilingualism in two bilingual early childhood centers, paying special attention to institutional and family language policies. The focus is on the study of the maintenance of heritage languages and approaches to addressing multilingualism in educational institutions.
