MA Daniel Amarelo
Daniel Amarelo studied Galician and Lusophone Studies, with a Minor in General Linguistics, at the University of Santiago de Compostela - USC (Galiza, Spain). They hold an M.A. in Language Teaching (USC) and an M.A. in Hispanic Linguistics (University of Colorado Boulder, USA), and have just submitted their PhD thesis (June 2026) at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC). At the intersection of critical sociolinguistics, queer theories and ethnographic methods, Daniel investigates the circulation of language ideologies in queer collectives in Galiza and Catalonia, both stateless nations with minoritized languages in Spain. In addition to research on how language revitalization and queer linguistics can impact each other, Daniel participates in research projects and professional associations which aim to explore and overcome sociolinguistic inequality, such as EquiLing - Critical linguistic awareness and speaker agency: Action-research for sociolinguistic equity and EDiSo - International Association for the Study of Language and Society (among others). They currently work as affiliated teaching staff in Language, Culture and Society at UOC and lectures Portuguese in the network of Escolas Oficiais de Idiomas in Galiza.
