Erez’s research uses quantitative, qualitative and experimental methods to investigate how people produce and perceive socially meaningful patterns of variation in language. He is particularly interested in how variation signals group membership and in the relationship between language and broader structures of social inequality, especially those related to gender, sexuality, social class and nation. Erez has conducted research on these and other topics in Israel/Palestine, the US, the UK, Brazil and South Africa. Since 2017, Erez has Principal Investigator of the Accent Bias in Britain project, leading an interdisciplinary team examining how accent attitudes may impede social mobility in the UK.
