Erez Levon joined the CSLS in August 2020. Prior to coming to Bern, Erez was Professor of Sociolinguistics at Queen Mary University of London, where he began working in 2008. Erez’s research focuses on how people produce and perceive socially meaningful patterns of variation in language. He is particularly interested in language variation as it relates to gender and sexuality, and how these intersect with other categories of lived experience (notably race, class and national belonging). Erez has conducted ethnographic fieldwork on these and other topics in Israel, South Africa, the US and the UK. Since 2017, Erez has been Principal Investigator of the Accent Bias in Britain project, leading an inter-disciplinary team examining whether accent attitudes can impede access to employment in the UK.
